Competition
The Calgary Dance Stampede offers the best of four worlds in one place! Not only is the Calgary Dance Stampede a fully-sanctioned qualifying event for the United Country Western Dance Council (UCWDC) Country Dance World Championships but we are also a points registry event for the World Swing Dance Council (WSDC) and the Country Two Step Tour (CTST). We also offer competition in popular Dance Hall styles.
Competitive Country, West Coast Swing and Line Dance are popular, widespread activities. The competitive Country dance genre is hosted at numerous regional dance events, such as the Calgary Dance Stampede. Dancers competing at these events are working toward top placement in their division and to qualifiy for the Country Dance World Championships each January. Jack & Jill West Coast Swing and Two Step competitions earn valuable points with the WSDC and CTST, advancing dancers into higher skill levels.
Competitiors range in age from six to sixty-five years old. They must be physically fit and mentally sharp to perform demanding dance figures, patterns, and routines. Dancers train throughout the year to maintain and improve their technique, balance, skills, strength, and flexibility. Competitive dancing requires dedication as many months may be spent practicing dance and developing dance routines.
